An RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feed is simply a webpage written in XML format. The webpage will list 'items' of news which include the headline, an into paragraph, a link and a date. The headline will contain the link when the item is displayed so that clicking on the link will take you to the URL hosting the full news story.
An aggregator is a piece of software typically which will link to any RSS feeds you are subscribed to, and deliver either those 'up to date' headlines or the full news story direct to you, without the need for you to go searching.
RSS feeds are mostly free, but there are some subscription services. Incidentally the new internet explorer has an RSS feed button, as does yahoo toolbar I believe .. to subscribe to a feed you either copy the link to your aggregator or drag the RSS icon onto your toolbar/feeder.
Setting up and RSS feed can look daunting, but its mroe confusing than complicated, adding itemds to a news feed is simple once it is set up, if you can use a program like dreamweaver for example.
My own RSS feed deliver Airshow news, and if you want to check it out can be seen on www.airscene.co.uk.
